We like to rock and roll all summer long, but fall is just as festive and delightful in Oconomowoc when it comes to keeping the fun rolling. Here is our list of five fall things to do this year.
1. Catch a show at the Oconomowoc Arts Center
The arts center has a spectacular fall lineup. They kick Hispanic Heritage Month off with Salsa Manzana Sept. 16. Local artists, Erik Lunde, brings his talent back to town Sept. 23. Get into the spooky season as Mainstage Academy of Dance presents "Dracula" Oct. 6-8. Popular doo-wop performers, Four Guyz in Dinner Jackets, bring their Supper Club Tour to the stage with dinner and a show Oct. 12-15. You can find Broadway here in Oconomowoc Oct. 21 with "Broadway Tonight Live!" performers sharing favorites. Enjoy a little family fairytale fun at "Once Upon a Mattress" Nov. 10-11 and 17-18. You can find show details and ticket info on the OAC Website.
2. Lots to do at the Library
Fall is the perfect time to cozy up with a book on a chilly day. However, the Oconomowoc Library has off-the-page fun planned in September. The library's September newsletter covers fun for all ages. Children can read to a dog Sept. 12 and 26. Paint your Pet Sept. 16 or catch a puppet show Sept. 30. Teens are not left out of library fun. Don't be too cool to catch a game of Dungeons and Dragons, connect with the Writer's Cafe or the Teen Knitting Circle. Adults, don't worry, you can also try your portrait skills at Paint your Pet, learn about fall landscaping Sept. 19 or join a cooking book club! Find it all here, and don't forget to check the October calendar, too.
3. Fall at the Farmers Market
We are biased but the Oconomowoc Farmers Market is one of the best around and fall is just festive here. Shop for seasonal produce, explore local handmade wares and enjoy the fresh fall air on market days. You won't want to miss the final weeks of the market. It runs from 8am-12pm Saturdays through October. You can find more here.
4. Out-of-the-Park Experience
Wisconsin Brewing Company Park, the home of the Lake Country Dockhounds baseball team, has a full roster of winners planned this fall. They kick off things being the host of Oconomowoc's National Night Out Friday, Sept. 22. The Oconomowoc Police Department has taken the traditional annual National Night Out event and kicked it up a notch... way up! The parking lot will be chock-full of safety agencies from around the region including mounted police, sheriff, Flight for Life, DNR and more. Enjoy demonstrations, a kids zone and grab dinner in the park while you watch the police take on the fire department in a kickball game on the field! Find out more here.
Sip on several libations, enjoy live music, join a bags tournament and just get in the Wisconsin German spirit during Oktoberfest Sept. 23 at the park. You can buy VIP ticket packages for the premier experience. Check it out here. Did someone say all you can eat mac and cheese? That's what you can expect at the Wisconsin Mac and Cheese Fest Oct. 7 at the park. Buy tickets to taste all the cheesy creations from vendors while you also enjoy drinks, games and music.
Finally, get into the Halloween spirit with family movie night at the park. Enjoy The Addams Family on the big screen in the park Oct. 14. This free family event is a fun way to enjoy fall outside.
5. Halloween in Oconomowoc
The city will hold its annual Halloween celebration on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Oconomowoc Lions Club will again host a Halloween Parade at 4pm. All are invited to don their scary, silly or sassy costume and join the parade. Prizes for best dressed. Check out more here. You can start the party off with sweets during downtown's Business Trick or Treat from 2-4pm. But don't fill up on too much junk without some dinner. You can grab a hot dog and drink courtesy of the Lions Club at Village Green Park downtown before the parade starting at 2pm. The city's residential trick-or-treat in local neighborhoods follows from 6-8pm.
